#1: Ink cartridge testers are no panacea Author: apara Post Posted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 10:02 PM

By chance we had a customer donate a used HP All-In-One 6210 printer. So, we decided to test some of our reject cartridges in it.

We had a box of cartridges that were returned by the customer as well as a box of cartridges that our CT16 tester rejected.

Well, it turned out that many of the cartridges rejected by the CT16 tester with "Clean contacts and try again" message were recognized just fine in the printer.

Those cartridges which were returned by the customers, failed to be recognized in the printer with a message "Remove and check black cartridge" (for example), however, had no trouble passing in our CT-16 tester.

I am getting more convinced that in order to truly reduce returns due to electrical failures, we need to invest in AIO printers and use these printers to test the cartridges. It's not the best solution, but it is something that we may need to do.
