So for kicks I decided to throw Ubuntu 9.04 (Linux) on a few old P4 machines with under a a gig of ram. So far I'm loving it. Now 3/5 work machines are using it. And 10.10 is coming out soon! The operating system it self is very stable and has a clean interface.
When i hook up a
printer via usb almost all
printer drivers are pre-installed in the operating system. This eliminate's annoying downloads and frustrating drivers. For instance...we pluged in a
HP 1320 the machine found it and installed drivers automatically for us in under a minute. NO MORE BLOAT WARE. WHOHOOO. I'm tired of 100mb+ driver packages.
The only problem I'm having is getting to share a
printer from Ubuntu to Ubuntu. But if I share a
printer from A xp machine to a Ubuntu machine to problem and vice versa. I'll work out that kink later.
Also the package manager with Ubuntu is just damn great.
The ubuntu machines and XP machines network almost perfect.
Also don't forget drop box!!!!
