The choice of what printer to buy just got a lot harder, or easier, whichever way you look at it.

Printer choice over the last decade or two has been pretty simple: inkjet or laser. Initially Inkjet offered colour while laser offered speed and latterly inkjet provides photo quality and laser has economy in its favour also. Now a new product, MemJet, looks to combine all the best features of all current printer technologies, creating the fastest, best quality and most cost effective prints.

Lenovo adopts Memjet Technologies

Memjet today announced that Lenovo will introduce the world’s fastest color office printing technology in China under a partnership with Memjet. The Memjet technology is twice the speed of the nearest competing color printer in its class and represents the most significant printing industry advancement in 25 years.

Lots of offices in lots of industries deal with materials that require discretion. Whether it's a military intelligence unit handling classified documents or a law firm planning strategy for a case or just someone who wants to keep business plans out of competitors' hands, secrecy is an important part of business. So it's understandable why Canon thought there might be a market for its new office printer, the Uniflow 5. But the somewhat Orwellian new features of the Uniflow 5 might go a bit too far in protecting company secrecy.

HP joining 3D printer market with Stratasys deal

Hewlett-Packard, one of the biggest names in printing, is dipping into the 3D printer market through a deal with Minneapolis, Minn.-based Stratasys, the companies said Tuesday.

3D printers let people create three-dimensional models out of designs created on a computer, constructing the model by either removing material from a block or by building it up gradually from another material. Stratasys will manufacture an HP-branded 3D printer set for release later this year.
