Ink and Toner Cartridge Makers Use ISO Standards to Report Cartridge Yields
Source: CARTRIDGENEWS.COM

So we recently covered the new ISO/IEC 24734 standard for measuring print speed, but that’s not the only way printer product pages are changing. New and Profitable Opportunities for the Toner Industry
Source: PACKAGINGESSENTIALS.COM

Capitalizing on profitable applications and new business opportunities is critically important in these difficult economic times. According to IMI President, Al Keene, "because of the current pressures on today's businesses, IMI's 12th Toner & Toner Chemicals Conference on May 4-6, 2009 in Chandler, Arizona will focus on technology developments, emerging applications and new business opportunities with potential to positively impact the toner industry. With annual worldwide toner consumption estimated at approximately 600 million pounds in 2008, the toner industry is a key component of the digital printing industry."

Exciting opportunities for the incorporation of specialty functional materials into toners will be demonstrated by Dr. James A. Hayward, President & CEO of Applied DNA Sciences, as he explains how botanical DNA can be put into toner to provide brand protection and security printing solutions.

Dr. Gordon Hardy of Hunt Imaging will address the latest developments in toner polymers including polymers for chemically prepared toners plus new Bio-polymers and Eco-toners as new opportunities for "greening" the toner industry are being pursued and welcomed.

How much can you save with ink replacement?
Source: MSOKOREA.COM

OEM manufacturers are most noticeably not giving up the fight but are ultimately going to be forced to play nice with the new industry they brought upon themselves. In July 2007 savings of up to 50-70 percent can be found by using replacement ink or replacement cartridges. Although the savings are there, the buyer must beware because the quality of the ink needs to be compatible to arrive at; not only a quality print job but a safe print job that does not damage the printer itself.

With a little over a month to go until Earth Day, STAPLES Canada Million Cartridge Challenge is close to reaching their goal of diverting a million ink cartridges from landfills.

162,000 cartridges to go, Canada. With the help of customers and vendors from across the country, STAPLES has collected more than 838,000 used ink and toner cartridges so far as part of their Million Cartridge Challenge. STAPLES' goal is to collect one million used cartridges, with the grand total being announced on April 22 - Earth Day.

"If we continue at this pace, we should exceed our goal of a million cartridges by Earth Day," said STAPLES Canada president, Steve Matyas. It takes 400 to 1,000 years for an ink/toner cartridge to decompose in a landfill site. The Million Cartridge Challenge is just one of the many ways STAPLES aims to fulfill their environmental goals; the retailer also sells a number of eco-friendly products, including recyclable bags, and will participate again during Earth Hour by ensuring stores turn off their lights for one hour on March 28.
