What NOT to Do When Refilling Ink Cartridges
Source: PRINTERINKCARTRIDGESBLOG.PRINTCOUNTRY.COM
We will have to admit – we rarely attempt to refill an ink cartridge on our own. We either sprung for a new one, or let the experts handle it; that’s just the way we roll, and mainly because we can be such klutzes there is no telling where that ink will end up.
Anyway, we watched this video and figured we were right about leaving it to the experts after all. We could totally imagine being in this guy Jon Davison’s shoes!

Raising a stink over ink
Source: KENTUCKY.COM
An ounce of filet mignon can cost you $1 at your grocery store — and the butcher won't hesitate to quote you the price.
But the cost of ink for your computer's printer? It can rival the cost of caviar — and you won't be able to pin down the price because the companies that make the cartridges don't tell you how much ink they contain.

Thief Caught – While Sleeping "On the Job"!
Source: PRINTERINKCARTRIDGESBLOG.PRINTCOUNTRY.COM
It is never a good thing to get caught sleeping on the job – more so if the job that you are currently doing involves stealing.
A thief found herself arrested by police in Spokane, Washington, after being caught sleeping inside the Rapid Refill Ink store on Monday morning, according to a report on the WSMV-TV Nashville website. The report also surmises how the suspect may have grown tired after the robbery and was prompted to doze off – perhaps a bit longer than originally intended.

Scammers Took $90000 Worth of Ink Supplies from Xerox!
Source: PRINTERINKCARTRIDGESBLOG.PRINTCOUNTRY.COM
It seems like every which way you turn, there are scammers who lurk in the shadows, and they can come up with the most imaginative ways possible to cheat people – and bigshot companies – of their cash.
According to a news report, Xerox became a victim of three scammers who managed to cheat the company out of $90,000.00 worth of printing supplies. Although that amount may seem like a tiny speck of the Xerox fortune, it is certainly an amount that is more than just worth sitting up for and taking notice

What's Cheaper: Replacement Ink, or a New Printer?
Source: PCWORLD.COM
With inkjet printer prices so low, and inkjet replacement cartridge prices so high, is it cheaper to replace your printer instead of buying new ink? That's the debate sparked at Digg's tech page when a user posted this photo comparing deskjet ink prices to the cost of brand name replacement cartridges. The Digg user's conclusion: It is cheaper to buy a new inexpensive printer for the free ink cartridges included in box instead of buying brand name replacement cartridges that can be very expensive.
This hypothesis was just too tempting not to look into. Could it really be cheaper? I decided to put on my very novice myth busting hat and find out.

Lexmark toner-cartridge program at center of ongoing litigation
Source: KENTUCKY.COM
A seven-year court battle between Lexmark International and a North Carolina company that provides supplies to companies that remanufacture printer cartridges has reached a final ruling in U.S. District Court.
Last month, Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove dismissed a number of claims by Lexmark and Static Control Components and said they "shall recover nothing." The ruling ended with a note saying the companies could present arguments that the other should pay for costs and attorneys' fees but cautioned that in "close and difficult" cases, costs are sometimes denied as "a proper exercise of discretion."
The case may be far from over, though.

Developing and selling ink that is compatible but considerably cheaper than manufacturer-produced ink and cartridges is a practice that printer manufacturers do not necessarily encourage – but blatant counterfeiting of manufacturer products? Now that is an entirely different story.

Will HP Remain the Leader in Printers and Ink?
Source: SEEKINGALPHA.COM
We estimate that HP's (HPQ) Printers and Ink Cartridges business constitutes 24% of the company's stock price. HP's printer business makes money primarily through the sale of ink and toner supplies for its printers.
HP's market share in printers has gone from 35% in 2005 to 40% in 2008. We expect HP's share gains to continue over the Trefis forecast period due to HP's strong relationships with large business buyers and its traction with consumers through its PC business which has also gained share in recent years.

HP Calls Out Kodak On Ink Cost Savings Claims
Source: CARTRIDGENEWS.COM
Truth in advertising is everything, especially when it comes to the high price of ink. So when Kodak advertised that consumers would save “on average $110 annually on ink by switching to Kodak ink and printers,” HP challenged the claim with a complaint to the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (NAD). The NAD is an independent organization that resolves disputes over truth in advertising as an alternative to litigation. Kodak failed to show up for its NAD complaint proceeding, and instead defended itself with a press release asserting that its ads have been approved by the NAD and that the complaint is “simply an effort to maintain HP’s dominant market presence while it continues to increase its ink prices.”

Ink cartridge recycling fails to cut costs, pollution in Calif.
Source: SACBEE.COM
On paper, the recycling program was touted as a bold step toward California's green, climate-friendly future.
A mountain of plastic and metal would be diverted from landfills. Greenhouse gas emissions would tumble. And one of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's climate change goals – trimming power use in state buildings by 20 percent – would nudge closer to reality as agencies snapped up new, more efficient office printers.
That is what state and Hewlett-Packard officials said last year when they joined forces to ship used HP printer ink cartridges from state offices to Virginia to be ground up and recycled into auto parts, serving trays, clothes hangers and other products.
But a Bee investigation, based on more than 100 pages of e-mails and other records, has found that 17 months after it was created, the program has delivered few if any of its promised climate benefits.

Lexmark Getting Ink Price In Line
Source: THELEDGER.COM
There was an interesting development in the printer industry last week. Lexmark announced a new line of inkjet printers for homes and small businesses.
No big news there. The really big news is that the ink cartridges will be reasonably priced, and, added Lexmark, they will contain more ink than their old standard cartridges.
If you do a lot of printing of letters, Web pages and forms that need only black ink, there is more good news: One black cartridge for these new printers costs a penny under $5 - and that's the suggested retail price.
